Role Summary:

The role is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective management of the organization’s financial operations, with a strong emphasis on financial planning, reporting, and compliance. The individual in this position will drive process efficiency across all financial functions, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards while optimizing financial performance. This includes managing budgeting, forecasting, audits, and internal controls, all while collaborating with other departments to support the organization’s strategic objectives and maintain fiscal responsibility. 

Designation: Assistant Manager – Taxation 

Experience: 5 – 8 Years

Location: Hyderabad (On-Site)

Role Summary:

The Assistant Manager – Taxation will be responsible for ensuring the company’s full compliance with all Direct and Indirect Tax laws and regulations. This role involves managing timely tax compliance, finalization of computations, handling tax audits/assessments, and providing advisory support to the business for tax-efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Direct Taxation (Corporate & Withholding Tax)

  • Tax Compliance: Prepare and review the quarterly and annual Income Tax Computations for the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the Income Tax Act.
  • Return Filing: Manage the timely and accurate filing of Corporate Income Tax Returns (ITR) and other direct tax forms.
  • TDS (Tax Deducted at Source): Oversee the entire TDS compliance cycle, including verifying applicable rates, timely deposit of tax, and filing of quarterly TDS returns (Form 24Q/26Q/27Q).
  • Transfer Pricing (TP): Assist in the preparation of Transfer Pricing documentation (Master File, Local File) and ensure compliance with all TP regulations.
  • Assessment & Litigation: Prepare data, workings, and submissions to assist senior management and consultants in handling Income Tax assessments, appeals, and any other tax litigation matters.

2. Indirect Taxation (GST / VAT / Sales Tax)

  • GST Compliance: Manage end-to-end compliance under Goods and Services Tax (GST), including review and finalization of monthly/quarterly GST Returns (GSTR-1, 3B, etc.).
  • Reconciliations: Perform critical reconciliations, especially GSTR-2A/2B vs. GSTR-3B and GSTR-3B vs. Books of Accounts, to maximize eligible Input Tax Credit (ITC).
  • Advisory: Provide accurate and timely advice to internal teams (Sales, Procurement, Operations) on the correct classification, rate applicability, and place of supply under GST for new business transactions.
  • Audits & Refunds: Manage the process for filing GST Refund claims and assist in preparing documentation for GST audits, assessments, and departmental queries.

3. Tax Strategy & Advisory

  • Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on complex tax matters, new legislation, circulars, and judicial precedents to assess their impact on the company’s operations.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential tax risks and exposures, and recommend proactive steps for mitigation.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and automation in tax processes by leveraging ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and tax-specific software.

4. Audit, Reporting & Team Management

  • Tax Provision: Assist in calculating the Current Tax and Deferred Tax provisions for financial reporting purposes as per accounting standards (Ind AS / IFRS).
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records, documentation, and a repository of all tax filings, working papers, and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Coordination: Effectively coordinate with internal auditors, statutory auditors, and external tax consultants.
  • Mentoring: Mentor and guide junior team members/executives on day-to-day compliance and technical matters.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: CA/CMA (Inter/Final) with a strong taxation background.
  • Relevant Experience: Minimum 4 to 7 years of post-qualification experience in a Corporate Taxation role or with a reputable Big Four/Tax Consulting firm.
  • Transfer Pricing: Working knowledge of Transfer Pricing regulations and documentation requirements is highly preferred.
  • Accounting Standards: Understanding of tax provision calculation and reporting as per accounting standards (e.g., Ind AS, IFRS).
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP FI/CO, Oracle) and advanced skills in MS Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex tax laws and structure transactions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to ensure 100% accuracy in all computations and filings.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for drafting submissions, providing clear advice to the business, and liaising with tax authorities.
  • Risk Management: Ability to proactively identify tax risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Leadership: Experience in mentoring or guiding junior team members on daily compliance tasks.
